Time has been kind to this country music legend. In 2018, her box set the Girl From Chickasaw County The Complete Capitol Master shocked the recording industry when it stormed out of the gate on both sides of the Atlantic. Nearly 20,000 sets were sold at close to a hundred dollars a piece. This was unheard of for an artist who had not set foot in a recording studio in over 4 decades. At 8 cd’s per box set, she sold over 150,000 cd’s in this era of digital music. It was by far the best reviewed box set of 2018 and it received a 2019 grammy nomination for Best Historical Recording. Sense then things have only gotten better. A 2020 induction into, The Nashville Songwriter Hall Of Fame, and more top selling re-issues under the stewardship of U.M.G who now own Capitol Records. People finally realize there is far more to Bobbie Gentry then her two self penned immortal songs, Ode to Billie Joe( 200 covers over 50 million in record sales) and Fancy (16 covers over 25 million in sales). Her masterpiece albums, The Delta Sweete, and, PatchWork, are finding a new audience after languishing in the Capitol Records vaults for decades. The L.A Times said it best in 2018 “Her Unrivaled Legacy Restored”.
