Single Review: Old Dominion, “Break Up With Him”

Old Dominion Break Up With Him
“Break Up With Him”
Old Dominion

Written by Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Whit Sellers, Geoff Sprung and Brad Tursi

Any song that starts with, “Hey, girl! What’s up?” gets off to a bad start right away.

What follows is three minutes of a guy pressuring a girl to dump her boyfriend because he knows that she’d rather be with him, instead.

Two ways to hear this:

One, if the guy is right, then it’s a mediocre love song about that moment when two people decide to get into a relationship.

The other, if the guy is wrong, it’s a creepy stalker monologue headed toward an order of protection.

Take your pick.

  1. Either pick is awful. I’ll say this they have potential but this song doesn’t leave a good impression on me. Hopefully they redeem themselves.

These guys though just aren’t leaving me impressed but I’m hopeful their next song will turn it around

Sorry for using this thread but can people please support Gloriana Trouble I simply refuse to see that song leave without a fight.

  2. It’s an “F” for me. The song sounds like something Florida Georgia Line would turn down. The spoken verses are awful. Plus the album cover art is dumb, which shouldnt matter I know, but it looks like something done by an intro to Photoshop class…..

  3. I should note the album cover on the linked YouTube video is dumb. The one at the top of the page is generic, but not embarrassing which is more than I can say for this song, but I digress….

  4. Eh, it is a C.

It is not a great song, but I didn’t get a stalker feel, I got a trying-to-be-funny-and-clever feel from the song.

  5. I will never be able to keep these guys and A Thousand Horses straight. I guess both labels had the same idea that we need a Southern rock leaning country band right now. Weird how all labels in Nashville think alike.
