With 2008 nearing completion, let’s take a trip down memory lane to the major awards shows of the year. The ACM Awards, the CMA Awards and the Grammys all provided their share of surprises and a few memorable performances to boot. What was your favorite live performance or award winner of 2008? My pick: Miranda Lambert’s Album of the Year victory at the ACMs for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. How about you?
I’m going to go off the country bandwagon and just say that the Amy Winehouse Grammy acceptance speech for Record of the Year and the performance that preceded it were the most mesmerizing award show moment for me this year. I couldn’t turn my eyes away from that spectacle.
As for favorite actual winner…well, Blake called the Lambert win already so I’ll go for Jennifer Nettles wining Song of the Year at the CMA’s.
I loved Vince’s win at the Grammys and his infamous quip. I also loved Miranda’s win and the Eddy Arnold tribute and accompanying performance from Carrie and Brad.
The tribute to Eddy Arnold. Wish they’d done the whole song.
Since Blake and Kevin took my choices – Lambert and Sugarland – I am going to go with Lady Antebellum’s win at the ACMs for Top New Vocal Duo/Group.
Wins:
Lambert’s win for AOTY was an awesome surprise and she totally deserved it. She deserves all the success that her peers (Underwood, Swift, Nettles) have.
Carrie Underwood winning FVOTY for her third straight year. Not only was her acceptance speech very well said and appropriate, but it served as a testament against her naysayers. She acknowledged where she came from and openly said she was happy that country radio embraced her like it did.
Performances:
Eddy Arnold tribute because it was both Underwood AND Paisley at their best.
‘Just A Dream’ at the CMAs. People always knock Carrie for her stage presence. She had it in excess (as well as emotion) during this performance, yet she maintained a high level of vocal performance as well. Though not a flawless vocal, it was the imperfections that made the performance perfect.
Well, since many of mine have been stolen…
I really enjoyed Sugarland performing “Love” it sounded great, and made me “love” the song more.
Well mine has been “stolen”, but i’ll “steal it back”…Carrie underwood’s performance of “Just a Dream”
Easily my fav. award show performance of the year was Should’ve Said No by Taylor Swift at the ACMAs. Not only was it an interesting performance, but the way Taylor sang the song, especially the third chorus, made the song my fav. of the year. Phenomenal!
My favorite winning moments were Lady A’s wins at the ACM’s and the CMA’s. I love how shocked and surprised they were to win! You can tell it means sooo much to them!
Also, Carrie’s third straight Female Vocalist win at the CMA’s. This girl is amazing and she definitely deserved to win! I also loved her “Just a Dream” performance. It was so emotional and powerful. I, too, also thought the Eddy Arnold tribute was amazing!
I also loved Miranda’s performance of “More Like Her” on the CMA’s. It was definitely the second best performance of the evening, in my opinion.
Let’s see, I loved how emotional Jennifer Nettles got after “Stay” won Single and Song at the ACM’s. That was one of my favorite moments too.
Kent, I believe the third chorus was her lip syncing. I know she prerecorded part of her performance.
In her defense, I’m pretty sure that was to avoid electrocution.
Good point, Chris. Water and live electronic microphones aren’t necessarily a great combination.
Lambert’s album of the year win was the best.
and I also loved it when Reba came out to sing “Cowgirls Don’t Cry” with Brooks & Dunn :D
Carrie’s Just A Dream – breath taking, tears to your eye’s
Miranda’s album win when you see her say “holy ****”
Miranda singing “more Like Her”, a different side of her and it is beautiful
Seeing Shania back
Carrie and Brad Tribute to Eddy Arnold and their respective repeat wins at ACM and CMA
i have to agree with mirandas holly ***** when she won, that was awesome and her more like her performance too
