While country music is widely known for its drinkin’, Cheatin’ and religious songs, love songs have a highly prominent place in the genre as well. In fact, I argue that country music is the home of the best love songs of all time.
What got me thinking about this topic is that Bill and I celebrate our 4-year anniversary today! I realize that it’s completely self indulgent, but I’d like to know your favorite country love songs.
Some of mine are:
- Kathy Mattea, “Where’ve You Been?”
- Martina McBride, “All The Things We’ve Never Done”
- Randy Travis, “Forever And Ever Amen” & “Deeper Than The Holler”
- Vince Gill, “Look At Us”
- Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash, “It Takes One To Know Me”
- John Denver, “Annie’s Song” (I may like John Berry’s version even better)
- Mary Chapin Carpenter, “Grow Old With Me”
- Josh Turner, “Angels Fall Sometimes”
- George Strait, “Any Old Love Won’t Do”
Of course, that’s just the beginning of my list to get the conversation started.

I read a great bio about him. What a life he lived! It’s Live Fast, Love Hard: The Faron Young Story by Diane Diekman. Check it out. We should honor this great musician more.
Cheers,
Linda
What was your wedding dance song Leeann?
Oddly, a lot of my favorite songs about love seem to be the leaving kind. ;) However, there are some great ones listed above (I won’t repeat them). Some others (some non-traditional):
“Remember When” – Alan Jackson
“He Didn’t Have to Be” – Brad Paisley
“Lullaby”, “Easy Silence”, “I Believe In Love”, “More Love” – Dixie Chicks
“Jacob’s Ladder” – Mark Wills
“Whenever You Come Around” – Vince Gill
“Love Without End, Amen” – George Strait
“Anything But Mine” – Kenny Chesney
“Maybe It Was Memphis” – Pam Tillis
“I Don’t Feel Like Loving You Today” – Gretchen Wilson (the song, not the performance)
“Cowboy in Me” – Tim McGraw
“If You Get There Before I Do” – Collin Raye
“That Summer” – Garth Brooks
it was already mentioned above by Jordan, but “Like Red On A Rose” by Alan Jackson

I give in – Sara Evans
I believe in love – Dixie Chicks
Easy Silence – Dixie Chicks
I need you – Tim McGraw and Faith Hill
Bobbi,
Bill and I actually don’t have a song. We’d never be able to agree on one.:) He’s not really into love songs, especially country love songs. Also, neither of us would dance in front of people. We had a small wedding with just family at my parents’ house (poor college students then).
He just reminded me that if we had actually chosen a song, it probably would have been “At Last”, because we both do like that one.
Awesome love song choices, Guys!
I should say, if I haven’t already, that I’ve had to break Bill into country music.:) His perception of it wasn’t too positive when we first met. So, while he has not been as converted as we’d all like, he’s come a long way.
I think Shania Twain does some of the best love songs!
My favorite Shania love songs are: From This Moment On, Forever & Always, & Your Still The One.
“Only Love” by Wynonna
Guilty as charged! While there is enough stuff I enjoy, and I likely listen to more country than Leeann listens to other genres (which she does, just not often), I wouldn’t be able to be classified as a fan.
More specifically, I am honestly just (from my own view and the view of others) a snob when it comes to music. One of those people who find that the “most country” songs never make it on the radio. Bluegrass influenced country, older country, stuff that is stripped down is my taste in the genre–with occasional exceptions that is about it.
