Discussion: Favorite Love Songs?

820781_27735109.jpgWhile country music is widely known for its drinkin’, Cheatin’ and religious songs, love songs have a highly prominent place in the genre as well. In fact, I argue that country music is the home of the best love songs of all time.

What got me thinking about this topic is that Bill and I celebrate our 4-year anniversary today! I realize that it’s completely self indulgent, but I’d like to know your favorite country love songs.

Some of mine are:

  • Kathy Mattea, “Where’ve You Been?”
  • Martina McBride, “All The Things We’ve Never Done”
  • Randy Travis, “Forever And Ever Amen” & “Deeper Than The Holler”
  • Vince Gill, “Look At Us”
  • Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash, “It Takes One To Know Me”
  • John Denver, “Annie’s Song” (I may like John Berry’s version even better)
  • Mary Chapin Carpenter, “Grow Old With Me”
  • Josh Turner, “Angels Fall Sometimes”
  • George Strait, “Any Old Love Won’t Do”

Of course, that’s just the beginning of my list to get the conversation started.

  8. Oddly, a lot of my favorite songs about love seem to be the leaving kind. ;) However, there are some great ones listed above (I won’t repeat them). Some others (some non-traditional):

    “Remember When” – Alan Jackson

“Cowboy in Me” – Tim McGraw
“If You Get There Before I Do” – Collin Raye
    “That Summer” – Garth Brooks

  9. Some of my faves are:

  10. Bobbi,

Bill and I actually don’t have a song. We’d never be able to agree on one.:) He’s not really into love songs, especially country love songs. Also, neither of us would dance in front of people. We had a small wedding with just family at my parents’ house (poor college students then).

He just reminded me that if we had actually chosen a song, it probably would have been “At Last”, because we both do like that one.

    Awesome love song choices, Guys!

  11. I should say, if I haven’t already, that I’ve had to break Bill into country music.:) His perception of it wasn’t too positive when we first met. So, while he has not been as converted as we’d all like, he’s come a long way.

  12. Guilty as charged! While there is enough stuff I enjoy, and I likely listen to more country than Leeann listens to other genres (which she does, just not often), I wouldn’t be able to be classified as a fan.

More specifically, I am honestly just (from my own view and the view of others) a snob when it comes to music. One of those people who find that the “most country” songs never make it on the radio. Bluegrass influenced country, older country, stuff that is stripped down is my taste in the genre–with occasional exceptions that is about it.
