Review: Jamie O’Neal, “God Don’t Make Mistakes”

Jamie O’Neal, “God Don’t Make Mistakes”

The song is decent enough. Nothing spectacular, especially when compared to Loretta Lynn’s “God Makes No Mistakes”, which was a far more interesting song. My real issue with this single is O’Neal’s vocal, something I never thought I’d write. She’s one of my favorite singers because she has a smoky, bluesy voice that’s unlike anyone else out there. But on this single she is doing what can only be called a Martina McBride impression. A casual fan of country music could be excused for thinking it was the latest Martina single. Heck, if I didn’t know it was O’Neal singing, I might make the same mistake.

  2. I love Jamie’s song too. SHe has such an awsome voice, but I agree with the Martina comment. I thought she was Martina McBride or someone along those lines when I heard the song at first. I love both women and their voice and the song style and vocals were just so similar. Great song though, insiprational, love it!

  3. Well, i would have too strongly disagree with the Martina Mcbride comment. I could tell it was her even when they didn’t annonce it was her. I guess i just have a better ear then some people. I don’t think that this song is as good as her old songs, but i love how it is inspirational and thats what we need more of.

  4. Whoever wrote that review must have something against what the song says. I think it is wonderful and we need more songs with good messages with all the gloom and doom in the world today.

  5. To Lisa:

I wrote the review, and I made it very clear that my issues with it were the vocal performance and the fact that the song wasn’t that interesting. Loretta Lynn has a much better song with the same title. Your deduction that I have something against the song’s message is incorrect.

  6. I LOVE THIS SONG. I HEARD IT ONE NIGHT WHEN I THOUGHT THAT MY WORLD WAS ENDING, AND WHEN I HEARD IT I THOUGHT OMG THAT SONG WAS A MESSAGE FOR ME. THANK YOU JAMIE O’NEAL YOU HAVE DONE A WONDERFUL JOB ON THIS I LOVE IT.

  7. phenomenal perfomance… I’ve actually worked with a producer in Nashville who’s worked with Jamie a number of times. He said she’s amazing and this song really shows off what she’s had inside for so long. This ranks right up there with “there is no Arizona”. Great job Jamie!
