I’m a big Nintendo guy. They put out a console, I buy it.
I like their handhelds even more. Every time they upgrade one, I buy the new and improved version. Bigger and brighter screens, internet access, more comfortable design. All good reasons to trade in the old one and get the new.
But sometimes Nintendo just puts a handheld out in a few new colors. Some people buy a new one when they do this, but I never do. I don’t see the point in buying the same thing that’s just been made to appear a little different. It’s not actually better than what I already have.
“My Kinda Party” isn’t an improvement on “Johnny Cash”, “Hicktown”, or “She’s Country.” It’s the same basic song, dressed up to look like something new. It’s not particularly better, and not particularly worse. Just the same old baked beans in a brand new can.

Grade: C
Listen: My Kinda Party
Definitely true – it’s the same old baked beans in a new can. And I have made no secret of the fact that I personally found those beans atrocious to begin with.
I will soon be writing my own review of this song.
I will show no mercy.
I’m with Ben, except for the writing my own review part, of course. Luckily, Kevin took one for the team on this one.
haha. Great review. Although I’m guessing you’ll be getting the 3ds :D
This could describe about half the songs being played on Country Radio. Taylor’s Mine is flying up the charts like crazy and it sounds just like her last couple of songs. Man, what is happening to the entertainment industry??? I can barely stand to listen to the radio anymore. She’s passing better songs to get to the top and it’s very sickening.
This isn’t about Taylor Swift though.
Aldean came out of the box with some good/not great music, there is a sameness to his recent out put that bores me, though I did like “The Truth”, so that’d be an exception.
I know most of the country doesn’t know who Brantley Gilbert is, but he’s the writer/original artist of this song, and since I knew that version first, I like it infinitely more than Jason’s. The lyrics are a little trite, sure, but at least Brantley’s version actually sounds like a party song. This one just makes me go, “Meh…”
“Meh” indeed.
But I suddenly feel like being a little nicer to Jason, so I will say that he has shown flashes of quality in the past with songs like “Amarillo Sky” and “The Truth.”
I think it’s a shame that Jason continues to tread the same ground that often consists of medicore songs with obnoxious production.
I think he has a decent voice, and has shown potential in picking ballads and a few uptempos that were at least enjoyable and had some element of charm.
“My Kind Of Party” isn’t one of them. I don’t think it’s as obnoxious as some of his past cuts like “Johnny Cash or “Crazy Town,” but it’s far from being a decent Aldean cut.
It puzzles me that Jason is a successful recording artist in radio and retail, but yet he feels the need to put out the same pesudo-rockstar persona, even though he has proven successful with different types of songs. It’s not as if he has the curse of Gretchen Willson or something.
Good point, K.
Sad if he really likes this kind of song, since it’s not being done out of necessity.
typical jason aldean. by that i mean awsomeeeeee
I just wanted to say that I’m a music junkie and that I just bought Jason Aldean’s latest album, “My Kinda Party” (that was released on November 2, 2010) a few days ago at Target. I think that it is one of the best Country albums of 2010 and Jason is the main reason why I started listening to Country music in the first place. The album has sold 1,204,386 copies over here in the United States of America and it also went Platinum. How cool is that? I’m so glad that I bought the album because I have been waiting for it to be released for a very long time. I also have all 3 of his previous albums and I listen to them all the time because I find his music so addicting, I just can’t stop listening to it. I like the way Jason has taken Country music into a different level by adding a perfect mixture of Pop and Rock to it because not a lot of Country music artists in the music industry can really do that when it comes to their own music, whichs means that he has a lot of creativity when it comes to his own music. He made a good choice on choosing Kelly Clarkson on singing a duet along with him on the song, “Don’t You Wanna Stay” because in my personal opinion, I really think that she has an amazing singing voice. Kelly is one of my most favorite female Pop music artists and songwriters in the music industry, and I’m also one of her most biggest fans. I’m going to keep on supporting Jason and his music no matter what anybody out there says or thinks because he is one of my most favorite male Country music artists in the music industry and I’m also one of his most biggest fans. He doesn’t have to write his own music to become a talented Country music artist in the music industry because the only thing that really matters to him is that he has a lot of fans out there who really enjoys listening to his music as much as I do, and I hope that he will continue on making Country music for the rest of his life because making Country music is what he lives for. I already know that Brantley Gilbert sang and wrote the songs, “My Kinda Party”, but he gave the song to Jason so that he could record it on his album. If he didn’t want Jason to record that song on his album, then he wouldn’t have given it to him to record in the first place. I like Jason’s version of the song a lot better than Brantley’s version. I think that Jason is very talented when it comes to singing and playing the acustic guitar. End of story.
